Day 1.- México city – Tlachichuca – Refugio Piedras Grandes Pico de Orizaba (4260 m)/ 13,972ft
The first day we leave 8:00 am from Mexico City heading to Tlachichuca on the main road arriving to Puebla and then to Tlachichuca after arriving at Mr. Canchola home, we will have our breakfast and then we follow driving with 4x4 transportation until the pedra grande refuge arriving around 15:45 pm, where is located our base camp at the base of Citlaltépetl Volcano to the north side, after putting our tents, we will give you a short mountaineering course, showing the correct way to use the climbing tools, and briefing for the next day, at 6:00 pm Dinner.
Day 2. - Piedra Grande refuge – attempt Summit Pico de Orizaba (5636 m)/18,486 – Piedra Grande refuge – Tlachichuca – México.
This day after having our breakfast at 12:00 am, we start walking toward summit of Pico de Orizaba, passing on the way up on rocky side (moraine) with visible route in some section and not visible in some parts, always the whole group will keep together, to don’t miss any client, be careful in places where the rock is cover by frost ice, which can be very slippery, we approach directly to the glacier, as soon as we reach the glacier field we put on our harness, crampons, helmet, ice axes and we rope up, then we start walking on glacier with a ratio of 2 clients per each guide, We will climb upon loose snow or hard snow depending of the season, we always climb up in sig - sag overcoming several snow step slopes of 40 ° to 50 °digress, after 6 – 7 hours climbing we will reach the summit, where we will have an impressive panorama view. Then we back on the same route after 3 – 4 hours descending we arrive to perdra grande refuge, there after packing our everything we follow descending until Tlachichuca where our transportation awaits us to back to Mexico City.
